A BIT ABOUT THE ARTISTS... Peculiar Blue

PECULIAR BLUE

Peculiar Blue are a four piece Acoustic / Electroacoustic / Indie band that have been performing around the UK and Europe for over 10 years.
Their blend of heart warming and thought provoking love ‘n’ life songs has been insighting audiences around the UK and Europe now for around 10 years.
In that time they have established themselves as one of Yorkshire's front running acoustic trios and gained a loyal and ever extending fan base.
Their music is an avenue to air their own life experiences, and the experiences of friends, family and situations around them.

The band are always willing to think out of the box when producing music and this is very evident on their forthcoming third album release ‘How You Could Leave’ Now available worldwide.
The album is a real eclectic blend of acoustic music, including the use of Paul's extensive acoustic guitar collection, drums, percussion, trumpets, vintage organs, cello and piano with guest performances from some of Yorkshire's finest up and coming musicians.

The album has had some great comments -

“Beautiful South meets Damien Rice, an outstanding collection of heart-warming songs from this Yorkshire duo…”

"Melancholy and sweet yet dark and powerful, a real interesting listen. Songs I can’t get out of my head…”

You can check out some of the songs off the album along with the bands full EP - 'We All Go Down Together' at the band's Soundcloud page:

Peculiar Blue are very active on the live music scene and play scores of gigs each year. They travel far and wide where necessary but mainly play gigs within the Yorkshire region.
Peculiar Blue play a mix of original material and covers but they certainly don’t play run of mill covers, “We dare to play the songs we like rather than the usual songs every one is sick of hearing.”

BARROW HAVEN FUNDRAISER EVENT

BARROW HAVEN FLOOD FUNDRAISER

On December 5th 2013, a tidal surge caused Barrow Haven, on the south bank of the river Humber, to flood. Its community was hit very hard, the devastation meant they were evacuated and unable to return to their homes. They were forced to spend Christmas elsewhere and many of them lost Christmas presents they had put beneath their trees for their loved ones. Despite their best efforts, the river destroyed everything these people owned and they have been told they will not be able to return to their homes for at least another 6 months. Having seen, first-hand, the effects of the flood I can tell you the scenes of the aftermath are heartbreaking. Something needs to be done to help these poor people.

The Barrow Haven Fundraiser Event has been organised by The Rotary Club Of Barrow Meridian and its associates to raise some much needed money to help those who have fallen victim to the weather.

On Friday 28th February 2014 there will be a very special event at the fabulous New Queens Club, Queen Street, Barton-upon-Humber, DN18 5QP.

All the musicians involved have volunteered their time and their own original music to help this cause.
A CD called 'An Appealing Compilation' featuring 20 tracks donated by some of the finest musicians the north of England has to offer, will be available at the event or as a download from Bandcamp (CLICK HERE!). 20 tracks of outstanding music for just £3!

A BIT ABOUT THE ARTISTS... Crooked Weather

CROOKED WEATHER (Featured on the CD)

Crooked Weather is an East-Yorkshire based folk band that has a distinct, earthy and just a little bit of an unruly sound. They sparked into life in Hull early in 2013. By June they had recorded their debut album, ‘Quantum Mango’, with the prolific Stewart Baxter (of Warren Records) and with the veteran producer John Cox in his hallowed Cupboard studio. The result is consummate Crooked Weather, equal parts chops, unruliness and earthy rhythm. Above all, it finds these men poised intriguingly between youth and experience; on the cusp of something.
2013 was a busy year post Quantum Mango for Crooked Weather. As well as appearing on various radio shows, including BBC Radio Humberside a number of times, they also played a number of festivals during the summer. These included Hull Folk Festival, Galtres Parklands festival and they headlined at Cottingham Springboard Festival. By the end of November Crooked Weather were invited back into the BBC to perform a live session with the champion of new Yorkshire music Alan Raw. “Crooked Weather have become a big part of the East-Yorkshires music scene”, Alan Raw.
Now in 2014 Crooked Weather is looking forward to an exciting year having already laid down the foundations for their second album. They are looking to complete this in time for the busy festival season.

A BIT ABOUT THE ARTISTS... Tim O'Connor

TIM O'CONNOR

Tim O'Connor is an English Folk/Rock singer, songwriter and guitarist who has been performing and recording since the late Seventies. His earliest musical influences were John Renbourn, Roy Harper, The Kinks, The Pretty Things, Jethro Tull, Yes and Led Zeppelin. Tim grew up on the coast of Holderness in East Yorkshire, listening to the rhythms of the waves and calls of the seagulls. At age 14 a school friend showed Tim how to play a very basic boogie rif on guitar, and the Bug had bit hard! Tim started to write his own songs pretty much from day one. Tim began performing publicly with the band 'English Films', from Withernsea, in the late 70s, playing original rock songs written by Tim and Derek Pearson. Then some stuff happened and Tim woke up this morning! How rock and roll is that? Though now recognised as a solo performer, Tim O'Connor fronted the band cowfisH for 20 years until 2013, when having disbanded, cowfisH became the recording vehicle for his more rock oriented compositions. Tim now lives in the Yorkshire city of Hull in the UK, which he finds strangely refreshing. He has released a large catalogue of albums, 27 to date, available on his record label, Uilleand Music. Tim's latest album, released August 2013, is 'where the monsters live' on Uilleand Music, and is available for download at timoconnor1.bandcamp.com
